Rugby Tourney In Town

DG Bulldogs Rugby Kicks Off in May

Dongguan’s first contact rugby tournament will be held on May 6 at Utahloy International School in Zengcheng. The organizer, Dongguan Bulldogs, will be competing against other adult 10’s clubs from South China and Hong Kong. Kids from Dongguan Bulldogs will also play on the same day. The tournament is actually one of the three-event series—the Nine Dragons’ Rugby Cup 2017—held in Foshan, Dongguan and Guangzhou during March, May and August, respectively. Started by One for the Road and running for a year and a half now, Dongguan Bulldogs attended their first contact rugby tournament on March 25 in Foshan and took the second place with 5 points in the ranking. The team that gets the most points in the three tournaments will win the 2017 Nine Dragons’ Cup.

“We lost against Foshan Sharks who are now on top with 7 points, so we need to beat them next time to go top,” said club captain Woody Woodward, nicknamed Captain Silver Fox. “I took it forward so we could play competitively and also, socially. That’s why it switched from tag to touch and now, including contact,” he added.
