Dip-It Mediterranean Restaurant: Take a Quick Dip
The orange colored-theme of this restaurant embodies warmth from the outset and when you try the food, it’s exactly what you get: healthy, tasty and kindly welcoming.
The open-plan kitchen gives the whole place a homely feel and you might see the owner cooking up your meal right in front of you as she chat’s away like your mom. To be relaxed and informal seems to be the rule here. Before ordering anything, you are served two different kinds of snacks, gratis: homemade pickles and crackerbread. It’s quite a tasty way to get excited for what’s to come.
The menu itself is charming and nearly every single dish feels a bit special in some way or another. Perhaps it’s something to do with the Israeli food, which seems to be a nice combination of many different cuisines. There is also a great selection of salads, including: the Mediterranean Plate, the Green Bean Salad and more! I’m a bit of a health nut, so I’ve tried them all and each offers a slightly different taste.
However, this time I decide to try something different: three classic dishes of Dolma (45 RMB), Hummus with Meat (55 RMB) and Moussaka (65 RMB).
The most impressive was the Dolma, which is rolled grape leaves and not too common. It is a great appetizer when you want something to eat quickly. The taste itself is slightly sour with an additional flavor on which you can’t quite put your finger.
Next up is the classically Greek, Moussaka. It’s a dish you can tell takes a lot of work and we get layer after juicy layer of eggplant, tomatoes, and ground beef, all topped with a creamy béchamel sauce. It’s rich, but not too heavy.
In Israel, arguing over who makes the best hummus is a nationwide habit and a symbol of pride. I try the hummus with meat, as it seems perfect for a workout freak like myself. Chick peas are super healthy, plus a boiled egg is thrown into the dish, too.
For those people that aren’t too familiar with Israeli food, the light and friendly Dip-It is the perfect place to give it a try. You might be desperate to share this little gem with your family or you might just want to keep it as a secret all for yourself.
