Humen’s Intercity Feud

There has been a fight between Humen and Foshan for 35 years. Both say they were first in teh country to install the labor intensive economic plan called the “3-plus-1” business model. It’s the same plan that brought wealth to locals from Dongguan’s once rural towns. Humen’s Taiping Handbag Factory went into operation in September 1978. However, the factory in Foshan argues they opened one month earlier. Although the Humen factory says their business license has the No. 1 serial number, they’ve been unable to locate the document. The controversy started in 2011 as both Dongguan and Foshan governments claimed the No.1 title.
