Chili Cook-Off

1014_scene_In Brief_Chili Cook-OffOctober 25 marks the 4th Annual Shooters/Dragons Baseball Club Chili Cook-Off. The event matches teams from the local community against each other to decide who has the best batch of the American comfort food that is famous for feeding hungry families and warming rib cages. Last year’s event raised a record RMB 40,000, which allowed the non-profit organization that teaches local youth about the sport of baseball, and how to keep in physical shape, to purchase a baseball pitching machine, a portable pitching mound, two batting mats and other important equipment. The fundraising at such events also allows for the program to remain free to the young athletes. The contest allows for ten teams to compete for “People’s Choice” and a “Best Chili” award chosen by official judges. At print time half of the ten team spots were unfilled, to join the cook-off contact the restaurant. “This year’s goal is to raise enough money to replace broken equipment from the last three years and purchase some much needed additional stuff for the program,” said co-organizer Darren Quon by e-mail.
